Mary, living in the town of Nazareth, in northern Israel was visited by the angel Gabriel who told her that she had found favor with God and would conceive the Son of the Most High. Though initially perplexed and asking how this could happen since she was a virgin, she humbly accepted her role, replying, "May it be done to me according to your word."
The Birth of Jesus
Because of a Roman census ordered by Caesar Augustus, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. With no room available in the inn, Mary gave birth to Jesus in a humble stable,
Mary, alongside Joseph, raised Jesus.
Mary is also present during significant moments of Jesus such as his first miracle at the wedding in Cana, at the foot of the cross, where she witnessed Jesus' crucifixion.
The Empty Tomb: Legend holds that Thomas the Apostle arrived late. When the apostles opened her tomb to pay their final respects, they found it empty—containing only burial cloths—signifying that her body was miraculously taken by God.
