A famous 13th-century mystic and poet Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī walked past a local blacksmith's shop. Hearing the rhythmic hammering of metal, he heard the repetition of God's name in the beats, "la ilaha illallah" (meaning "there is no god but God") Overcome with pure, ecstatic joy, he threw out his arms and started spinning and that was the beginning of Sama dance, a deep spiritual meditation.

Cosmic Physics: The movement isn't just random spinning. The dancers, known as dervishes, symbolize the planets in the solar system, spinning both on their own axis and revolving around the center (representing the Sun/God).
Sama dance is a reminder that even in constant motion, there is a divine center holding everything together.
