As a child, Ganesha once stood guard while his mother, Parvati, rested within. When Lord Shiva arrived and was stopped by the young boy, a great battle followed, ending with Ganesha losing his human head.

Filled with grief, Shiva restored him to life with the head of a mighty elephant and blessed him to be worshipped before all others, as the remover of obstacles and the guardian of new beginnings.

With his calm wisdom, gentle strength, and compassionate presence, Ganesha came to symbolize intelligence, prosperity, protection, and success.
